XENICAL can help patients reach their goals,
but adherence to an appropriate diet and activity level is essential for
any successful weight-loss therapy. To ensure that each patient complies
with the regimen you prescribe, weve provided some tools to help you
establish an individually tailored diet and activity regimen based on
each patients preferences and ability.

Patient Information and Support
Dietary Needs
Research shows that diets individually designed to create a
daily calorie deficit of 500 to 1000 calories are
appropriate to achieve slow but progressive weight-loss results of 1 to 2 lbs per week.
41 A nutritionally balanced, low-calorie diet consisting of 800 to 1500 calories per day
is considered standard dietary therapy for weight loss in overweight or obese patients.41
Go to sample diets containing no more than 30% calories from fat.
Activity Levels
Moderate amounts of physical activity, consisting of 30 to 40 minutes per day, 3 to 5 days per week,
should be an integral part of a weight-loss regimen, taking into account the patient's overall
health profile and risk factors, of course.
41
Because patients may misconstrue physical activity to mean "strenuous exercise,"
which can be daunting (especially for patients who are overweight or obese or who live sedentary lives),
it is important to provide them with examples of simple common chores that
achieve the desired effect, such as walking a few minutes a day.
